What is a doula? A doula is here to offer continuous practical and emotional support to the mother and family inn all aspects of family life. A doula provides help and advice with compassion and without judgment. That extra pair of hands to do whatever needs to be done.
Often doulas are mothers themselves and will be experienced on caring for babies and children as well as managing family life.
A doula can support in the following areas:
- Prenatal support: including birth preparation…
- At the birth: acting as birthing partner…
- Postnatal support: including caring for mother and baby in any way required, helping to manage family life and home life.
I offer postnatal support.
In many cultures the 30-40 days after birth are considered a sacred and protected time. Many cultures have a “golden month” or “lying in” period, where the mother is treated with the same tender care as her newborn baby. This care ensures the mother’s healing and therefore her health and wellbeing for the next 40 years.
I offer postnatal support as you transition into motherhood or when you have another child. I will provide the care, nourishment and healing you need during what can be a challenging time.
I can tailor my support and provide what you need on any given day as you get to know your baby and adjust to the many changes the birth of a baby brings, including:
- Preparing and cooking your preferred delicious, nutritious meals and snacks
- Preparing fresh, delicious, hydrating drinks
- Advising and supporting you to recover from birth, including herbal sitz baths, peri bottles, castor oil packs, massage, pelvic wrapping, adapted postnatal yoga, reiki
- Providing a kind, unjudgmental listening ear to witness your (and your partner’s) experience
- Holding a calm, loving space for you and you family
- Empowering you to follow your own parenting instincts
- Sharing resources and specialists, should you need
- Tending to your baby, so you can have time and space
- Providing phone support (via calls and texts)
- Helping around the house
- Helping with older siblings
- Helping to plan activities or trips
- Helping with pets
- Picking up groceries and shopping
Before the birth we will meet to get to know each other and to discuss any details to help guide how I can best support you.
You can book me for the time and duration you prefer, at any point during the days, weeks or months after the birth, and for a minimum of 3 hours per day.
